Arlington Raceway awards banquet recently held in Morton

The 2023 Arlington Raceway Awards Banquet was held at Jackpot Junction on Saturday, March 16.  Perfect attendance awards were given out to drivers that participated in every event. The top 10 in each oval track division received awards sponsored by Hess Technology. Champions in each class honored were Coors Light IMCA Sport Compact-Alan Lahr, Eckblad Shop Services IMCA Hobby-Cory Probst, Xmark Outlaw Hobby-Dakota Robinson, Arlington State Bank IMCA Sport ModifiedMatt Looft, Henderson RoadHaus IMCA Sprint-Matt Johnson, B&B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car-Dan Mackenthun, Ottomotive Tire & Repair-Clint Hatlestad. EZ Wash & Storage Truck CrossJosh Compton. The Jerry’s HQ Foods Auto Cross was won by Aaron Brinkman. The Farmer Brown Motorsports Go Kart Champions were Jr. Sportsman-Noah Rustman, Junior-Brayden Allen and StockTravis Manderfield.

Board approves process to hire interim superintendent

The Sibley East School Board, during its special meeting on Monday night, March 25, unanimously approved a motion to approve the agreed upon hiring process for an interim superintendent through South Central Service Cooperative (SCSC) for one year. SCSC has conducted superintendent searches for Sibley East in the past. Since Sibley East is a member of SCSC, the superintendent search is free except for printing, postage, mileage, telephone and advertising costs. School Board members Brian Brandt, Avery Grochow, Ashley Latzke, Rachel Lueth, Laura Reid and Sarah Ziegler all voted in support of the motion. Current Sibley East Superintendent Dr. Joe Libby recently announced that he has been hired as a superintendent of schools for Sweetwater County School District No. 1 in Rock Springs, Wyoming. His current contract at the Sibley East Public Schools expires on June 30.

Gaylord man facing murder charges in fentanyl death of an 18-year-old female

A Gaylord man was recently arrested after he allegedly sold a woman the fentanyl pills that resulted in her overdose death. Authorities, according to the criminal complaint, responded to a reported overdose death in Montgomery on Jan. 8. An 18-year-old woman was found dead at the scene, according to the criminal complaint. An autopsy determined that the woman died of accidental fentanyl toxicity.

GICS fundraiser tops over $40,000 to date

A fundraiser for the Green Isle Community School has reached over $40,000 as of Wednesday, March 20. History People who attended a recent Roundtable Rally learned that the school is facing declining enrollment and financial challenges. In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the student enrollment has dwindled by 35 percent, according to a letter sent home to parents and out to community members and businesses. The current student enrollment is 37 children. As far as the financial picture goes, a transition from an independent contractor to an all encompassing business management services did not go as planned due to past budgeting practices. In addition, there have been audit delays for fiscal year 2022 due to auditor shortages for small schools in rural areas. As a result, the school has a goal to raise $340,000 within the next year which will reverse its current statutory operating debt and relieve its outstanding invoices.

Sixty-two units collected during recent blood drive

The American Red Cross collected 62 units of blood at the Arlington Event Center on Tuesday, March 12, according to Coordinator Ardis Husfeldt. Forty of the units were whole blood while 11 donors were power reds and contributed another 22 units.

Arlington hires 4th police officer

The Arlington City Council, during its regular meeting on Monday night, March 18, voted 4-0 and approved a motion to hire Stephanie Kvare as a full-time officer for the Arlington Police Department at a starting salary of $31.99 per hour. The new hire is included in the police budget, according to City Administrator Jessica Steinke. City Council members Curtis Ling, Christina Litfin, Jeff Matz and Dave Meyer all voted in support of the motion. City Council member John Thomes was not present at the meeting.

Arlington City Council votes 3-2 to approve contract with MVCOG

The Arlington City Council, during its recent regular meeting, voted 3-2 and approved a contract with the Minnesota Valley Council of Government (MVCOG).
City Council members Christina Litfin, Jeff Matz and John Thomes voted in support of the motion.
City Council members Curtis Ling and Dave Meyer voted against the motion.

The City Council made the move after a presentation by MVCOG Program Administrator Victoria Potts.

What is the MVCOG?
Voluntary association of 14 local government jurisdictions in south central Minnesota
Combination of cities and counties
Provides successful coordination of local government services and policies
Established to foster a cooperative effort in resolving problems and providing resources that are common to local governments with the maximum efficiency and economy

Sibley County FoodShare announces March Campaign

Sibley County FoodShare (SCFS) announces the March Campaign through a partnership with the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches (GMCC) to conduct the annual campaign.

As one of nearly 300 participating Food shelves across the state SCFS benefits from dollars collected by GMCC by raising money locally through cash donations and collecting food for a percentage of matching dollars raised by GMCC. Every dollar and food donation given to Sibley County FoodShare stays local. Every dollar given to GMCC during the March campaign goes into their food fund and is distributed to participating food shelves based on how many pounds of food and dollars are collected locally. The 2024 March campaign runs from February 26 through April 6.

Doloris (Schultz) Roufs celebrated her 100th birthday at the Good Samaritan Society - Arlington on Monday, Sept. 26.


Her late husband, Cletus Roufs, would have celebrated his 100th birthday just one day later.
Doloris and two other residents were recognized for their birthdays during a celebration at the Good Samaritan Society - Arlington earlier this month.


She also celebrated her birthday with family members at the A-Town Tavern in Arlington on Sunday, Sept. 25.
Doloris will also be the honored guest during a private family party in Fairview Park in Arlington on Saturday, Oct. 1.


Doloris was born to William and Martha (Dose) Schultz in Glencoe on Sept. 26, 1922. She is the oldest daughter and last surviving child of a family of 10 children.

Luke Ellanson, who was offered the job to fill the open police chief position, has withdrawn his application.
The full Arlington City Council was notified about the news by an e-mail on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 24.
The City Council, during its regular meeting on Tuesday night, Feb. 22, approved a motion to make a conditional offer of employment to Ellanson to fill the open police chief position.
