SE boys baseball team closes out regular season with twinbill loss to Tri-City United

The Sibley East varsity boys baseball team closed out its regular season with a twinbill loss to visiting Tri-City United in Minnesota River Conference action on Thursday afternoon, May 16.
The Wolverines will open the playoffs at Jordan at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 23.

A seventh-inning rally came up just short as the Sibley East varsity boys baseball team was edged by visiting Tri-City United 11-10 during the first game of a Minnesota River Conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, May 16.

The Wolverines, who trailed 11-4, scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh frame.

New school record set by 4 X 800 meter relay team

The Sibley East varsity boys 4 X 800 meter relay team set a new school record at the Minnesota River Conference Boys Track and Field Meet at Tri-City United on Thursday afternoon, May 16.


The 4 X 800 meter relay team set the new school record with a time of 8:37.01. The foursome, which earned all conference honors, included Jens Lundstrom, Travis Andrews, Micah Scherer and Jose Nevarez.


The previous school record of 8:37.5 was set by the foursome of Marcel Montiel, Riley Norman, Julio Garcia and current Sibley East assistant coach Andrew Thies in 2011.


“We are extremely pleased with the improvement and performance of our boys 4 X 800 meter relay team,” said Sibley East head coach Jim Kreft. “From the first time they ran together this spring, they saw the school record as an attainable goal.”

Lily Beneke and Isabelle Ballalatak earn honorable mention all conference honors

The Sibley East varsity girls track team placed sixth during the Minnesota River Conference Girls Track and Field Meet at Tri-City United on Thursday afternoon, May 16.
Belle Plaine captured top honors with 243.5 team points. Jordan placed second with 113.5 team points. Tri-City United (81.5), Le Sueur-Henderson (71), Norwood-Young America (62.5), Sibley East (45), Southwest Christian (36) and Mayer Lutheran (32) rounded out the field.

Second place winners and honorable mention all conference selections were Lily Beneke (shot put) and Isabelle Ballalatak (800 meter run).


“Congratulations to Lily Beneke and Isabelle Ballalatak for earning second place finishes and honorable mention all conference honors,” said Sibley East head coach Jim Kreft.  “They have been two of our most consistent performers this season and it was great to see them rewarded.”

SE softball team closes out regular season

The Sibley East varsity girls softball team captured one win in four Minnesota River Conference games as its regular season came to a close last week.
The Lady Wolverines were scheduled to play St. Clair in the opening round of the playoffs on Tuesday afternoon, May 21. That game, however, was postponed due to rain. The game was scheduled to be played at Mankato Loyola on Wednesday afternoon, May 22.

The visiting Sibley East varsity girls softball team was blanked by Norwood Young America 10-0 in Minnesota River Conference action on Monday night, May 13.
Senior Morgan Mathews and junior Hannah Ebert had the lone hits for the Lady Wolverines.
No pitching statistics were available from this game.
