The Green Isle Irish baseball team collected only five hits, but still blanked Wanamingo 4-0 during the opening round of the Minnesota State Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament at Watkins on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 23.
The Irish plated their first run in the top of the third inning with a one-out single by Lucas Herd and consecutive three two-out walks to Alex Twenge, Brian Scherschligt and Ben Alexander.
Green Isle scored its next run in the top of the seventh inning. Ryan Evanson drew a leadoff walk and was replaced by pinch runner Austin Brockhoff who advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Zach Herd. After Lucas Herd flew out to left field, Brockhoff scored from second base on a Wanamingo infield error.
