An informational public meeting to discuss the future of the Green Isle Post Office will be held at the Green Isle Community Center at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, according to a notice from the United State Postal Service.
The Postal Service will answer questions and provide additional information about POST Plan. At the meeting, local management will share the results of a survey which was sent out to customers of the Green Isle Post Office. Although survey results will be known and shared, the Postal Service will not make a final decision regarding the Green Isle Post Office until after the public meeting. This will enable the Postal Service to obtain all community input and opinions from the surveys and public meeting before making a decision.
The following options are being considered by the Postal Service.
1. Keep the office open based on actual office workload. In the case of the Green Isle Post Office, hours would be reduced from eight hours each weekday to six hours per weekday. The current Saturday hours would not change as a result of POST Plan and access to delivery receptacles would not be impacted by POST Plan.
2. Conduct a discontinuance study for the Green Isle Post Office and offer roadside mailbox delivery. Retail and delivery service would be provided through a rural carrier.
