Marlin D. Bergs, 71, Arlington

Marlin Duane Bergs, age 71, of Arlington, passed away at his residence on Friday, Oct. 10.
A memorial service was conducted at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14. 
Visitation was held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Interment was in the Arlington Public Cemetery.  
Marlin was born to Alvin J. and Lorraine (Lucht) Bergs in Arlington on Oct. 26, 1942. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn by Rev. Mueller on Nov. 29, 1942. Marlin was confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington by Rev. John G. Bradtke on March 25, 1956.. He graduated from the Arlington-Green Isle High School in 1960. On Feb. 24, 1963, Marlin married Lila Mavis Vinkemeier at the First Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He graduated from Dunwoody Institute in 1965 and Pipestone Technical College in 1986, majoring in culinary arts. Marlin farmed with his father in the 1980’s and worked for Super Valu from 1987 until his retirement.  He enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, fishing, camping and spent summers in Little Winnies Resort and wintered in Arizona.
Marlin is survived by his children, Kevin (Lisa) Bergs, Colin Bergs and Wanda Lambert; grandsons, Kyle and Brandon; mother, Lorraine Bergs; sister, Luanne (Gary) Schuette; and nieces and nephews. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lila, in September 1996; his father, Alvin, in January 2014; and his brother, Roger Bergs, in January 1965. 
Kolden Funeral Home of Arlington handled the arrangements.
