The Sibley East School Board, at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday night, Nov. 17, approved the lowest qualified bidder for each bid section as recommended in the Bid Recap document presented by R. A. Morton & Associates, Inc. for the base bid amount plus the approved alternate amount, contingent upon a successful pre-award interview with each prime contractor.

The only alternate bid accepted by the School Board was for bid package 8C aluminum doors and windows.  Ford Metro, Inc. submitted the low base bid for solar bronze tinted glass, but the School Board accepted the alternate which was for glass with a one-inch insulated Panelite Clearshade truewhite insert.

This glass will cut down on the sun glare in the school, but will add about $136,000 to the construction costs.  Preston Euerle of R. A. Morton feels that there is enough in the contingency to cover the extra expense. Heartland Glass Company, LLC submitted the lowest alternate bid.  Superintendent Jim Amsden requested a sample of the glass so it will be available for people to see.
