Irish defeat Dumont 8-1 in state baseball tourney

The Green Isle Irish baseball team scored early and defeated Dumont 8-1 during the second round of the Minnesota State Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament at Belle Plaine on Friday night, Aug. 22.
The Irish plated four runs in the top of the first inning. Green Isle tallied the runs on a leadoff triple by Zach Herd, a double by Nate Pilacinski, a walk to Brian Scherscligt, a double by Alex Twenge and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Matt Breyer.
Dumont scored its lone run off Green Isle starting pitcher Mac Zachow in the bottom of the third inning. The Saints plated the run on a one-walk single, a stolen base and a Green Isle infield error.
The Irish extended their lead to 6-1 with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Green Isle tallied the runs on a single by Jeremy Ische, a walk to Herd, a single by Pilacinski, a RBI single by Scherschligt and a RBI groundout by Alex Twenge.
Green Isle scored its final two runs in the top of the sixth inning and increased its lead to 8-1. The big blow was a bases loaded single by Pila-cinski which plated both runs.
