Members of the Capital Investment Committee recently traveled across Southwest Minnesota to view potential project sites and hear various project presentations. It was very similar to the previous three tours across the state.

Part of the most recent tour took place in District 18 which is represented by State Senator Scott Newman. One of the requests for bonding funds has been made by the Minnesota Valley Regional Rail Authority, according to Newman.

The MVRRA is requesting $22 million in bonding funds to help upgrade 26 miles of existing railroad track that was built in 1912. The stretch of railroad serves as a major artery for commodities to head to market or processing plants. The existing track is in such poor condition that trains are forced to go just 10 miles per hour. The replacement area is in Sibley and Renville counties and runs from west of Winthrop to Franklin.
