Myra L. Briest, age 71, of Gaylord, passed away at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis on Sunday, March 1.
Memorial services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 6. Pastor Scott Richards will officiate.
Curt Kahle will be the organist. He will also sing “Near To The Heart Of God.”
Congregational hymns will be “This Is My Father’s World,” “Amazing Grace” and “Abide With Me.”
Urn bearers will be grandchildren, Henry Briest Dissell and Willa Briest Dissell.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church  on Friday, March 6.
Interment will be in the church cemetery. 
Myra Lee (Stuedeman) Briest was born in Glencoe on May 9, 1943. She was the daughter of Walter and Lillian (Kosek) Stuedeman. Myra was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth at First Lutheran Church in Glencoe. She received her education in Glencoe and was a 1961 graduate of the Glencoe High School. She attended college in Hibbing. 
On April 25, 1965, Myra was united in marriage to James Briest at First Lutheran Church in Glencoe, by Reverend R.F. Meissner. After their marriage, the couple lived on the Briest family farm in Kelso and Sibley townships, and farmed with James’ brother. She was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Lakeview Nursing Home and Heritage House in Gaylord where she retired.  James and Myra shared 46 years of marriage before James passed away on Oct. 15, 2011. They were blessed with five children.
Myra was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the Ladies Group at church and the Legion Auxiliary.
Myra enjoyed reading, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Myra is survived by her children, Randy Briest of Arlington, Barry Briest of Arlington, Daniel Briest of Mayer,  Jennifer Briest (Marc Dissell) of Montevideo, and Pamela (Kevin) McCarthy of Dell Rapids, S.D.; grandchildren, Henry Briest Dissell and Willa Briest Dissell; sisters, Mary Ann Buck of Arlington,  and Carol (Gene) Amorde of Superior, Wis.; three nieces, other relatives and friends.
Myra was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lillian Stuedeman; husband, James Briest; brothers-in-law, Dennis Briest and Maurice Buck.
