Sibley East Superintendent Jim Amsden gave a presentation on the options the community task force considered, the option the task force recommended, the tax impact to homeowners and farmers, the May 2011 building referendum and the survey the district conducted following the defeated referendum.
Representatives from Wendel Architects, RA Morton and Ehlers were all available for questions.
Some residents were there simply for information, others to ask questions.
The estimate take increase on a $80,000 home is $116 per year. One resident asked if that is a set amount or if it would fluctuate.
Amsden explained it would fluctuate with property values.
He also explained that since 2011 property values in the district has increased, but interest rates have come done and are still coming down. The $116 could actually be lower.
There were many concerns about the increased taxes for agricultural land owners.
