Seneca Foods will be closing its operations in Arlington next spring.
That news was officially confirmed by Tim Benjamin, CFO, Seneca Foods Corporation, on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 21.
“It was a very difficult decision to make,” said Benjamin.  “We looked at a number of alternatives, but the economics left us with no other choice but to close the facility.”
Benjamin continued, “I would also like to stress that we are working with the employees to review relocation options at other Seneca facilities. We believe that job opportunities will be available in the immediate area as well as around the company.”
Benjamin added, “The decision was not taken lightly and in no way reflects the efforts of the dedicated employees at Arlington.”
The future of the local plant is unknown at this time.
Arlington Mayor Jim Kreft, during the regular City Council meeting one night earlier, said the closing will be “a big hurdle for our town.”
