The Sibley County Developmental Achievement Center (DAC) will celebrate its 45th anniversary from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24. The celebration will take place in the DAC’s new building at 203 Shamrock Drive, according to Sibley County DAC Director Mark Pauly. The event is open to the public.
In 1968, concerned people in Sibley County organized to develop a center for persons living in Sibley County who could benefit from services provided by a Developmental Achievement Center (DAC). Through their efforts and the support of other individuals, agencies, and organizations, the Sibley County Developmental Achievement Center, Inc. was opened in Arlington in 1969. It was located at 600 East Clinton Street until mid 1979. The DAC operated in the lower level of the Arlington State Bank during the 1979-1980 term. In August 1980, The DAC opened in a new, barrier-free building, which was designed specifically for providing services to persons with various disabilities. In May 1996, Sibley County Seconds, a store which sells donated clothing items and client manufactured products, was opened to provide additional opportunities to persons with disabilities.
