The Arlington City Council, during its regular meeting on Monday night, April 17, voted 4-0 and adopted a resolution to send a letter and request the Minnesota Department of Transportation to authorize a speed study on Highway 5.

The City of Arlington has requested the speed limit be reduced from 60 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour along Highway 5 from the Cenex Convenience Store (Second Avenue Northwest) to The Quick Shop (County Road 17).

“It is extremely important to the City of Arlington that the speed limit be reduced,” the letter said. “The curve on the east side of the city is a blind curve as one travels into Arlington from the east. With the newly constructed retail facility Dollar General, Subway/The Quick Shop, County Road 17 and the Sibley East Athletic Complex, the city has experienced increased pedestrian traffic at the Highway 5 and County Road 17 intersection.”
