People who have attended a Sunday service or funeral at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Green Isle  have heard Corrine Powers play the organ for nearly 45 years.

That era came to end early last fall when a retirement party was held for the rural Green Isle resident who had serenaded congregational members and visitors with music since June 1973.

Corrine, who grew up on a dairy farm near Bongard’s Creamery, took piano lessons as a young girl. She later played the organ for a church in Renville for a couple years in the mid 1950s.

“Then I didn’t play the organ again for a number of years until after we moved to Green Isle,” she said.
