The Sibley East School Board, at its regular monthly meeting in Arlington on Monday evening, July 16, approved a request by the City of Gaylord to extend the Like-Kind Exchange and Option Agreement between the city and the school district until September 1, 2026.

According to Sibley East Superintendent Jim Amsden, the  agreement gives the City of Gaylord the option to purchase the green space and bus garage owned by the school within the City of Gaylord.  If the city purchases the school property and bus garage, it will have to find the school a similar space and bus garage.

The original agreement, which was entered into during August of 2015, states that the city has the option to acquire tract three, as listed in the agreement and that the option will terminate on July 1, 2020.  The agreement recitals also state that the city is in the process of selling the old Sibley East elementary building to Danza Group of Minnesota, LLC and that the Danza Group has an option to purchase from the city tract three should the city acquire it.  The Danza Group asked the city to extend its option until Sept. 1, 2026.
