The Arlington City Council, during its regular meeting on Monday night, July 16, accepted a petition from local resident Denise Swenson to create a fenced, off-leash dog area at the Sportsmen’s Park or any park that the city chooses.

Well over 100 local and area residents signed the petition.

According to the petition, this park would be a designated area where residents and their well-behaved canines could exercise and have fun in a clean, safe environment. The people who signed the petition want to create a beautiful, well-maintained space open to all dog lovers and friends who would be willing to uphold the park’s rules and restrictions. This park would be designed to satisfy the needs of dog owners and non-dog owners alike. The aim is for this park to be a community project, supported in large part by volunteer dog advocates and maintained in partnership with the City of Arlington.
