District Testing Coordinator Jeremy Wagner presented the academic achievement report for Sibley East students to the School Board on Monday night, Oct. 15.  

The report shows that as a district, Sibley East is behind state standards in math and reading.  The statewide math rate is 56.21 percent while the Sibley East School District rate is only 50.88 percent.  The statewide reading rate is 59.15 percent while the Sibley East District is only 53.11 percent.  

School Board member Laura Reid felt frustrated that students were doing well on homework, but not doing well on tests.  She felt that students were not comprehending what they were learning.  Elementary Principal Mari Lu Martens reiterated that point and stated that she has seen students do a math formula correctly, but not be able to come up with the answer to a very simple math problem.  Superintendent Jim Amsden stressed to School Board members that it was only one test capturing data at a specific point in time.
