Douglas Schauer, age 74, of Arlington, passed away at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis on Thursday, Oct. 18.
Memorial services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Arlington, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4.
A gathering of family and friends will be held two hours prior to the service time at the church on Sunday, Nov. 4.
Interment will be in the Arlington Public Cemetery.
Douglas Carl Arthur Schauer was born to Vernon and Marie (Bogatzki) Schauer in New Ulm on March 16, 1944. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Arlington Township and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. Doug was a 1962 graduate of the Arlington-Green Isle High School. On Nov. 25, 1966, he married Bobette Woehler at Zion United Church of Christ in Le Sueur. Doug worked at the Arlington Cement Works, Farmhand in Green Isle, worked as a machinist at Waconia Manufacturing from 1964 until 1988 and then became the plant superintendent at the canning company in Arlington from May 1988 until his retirement from work on June 1, 2006. Doug was a former member of the Arlington A’s Baseball Board, a member of Arlington Lions Club and a member of the Sibley County Choral Society. In his retirement he restored pre-World War II pressed steel toys, enjoyed mowing and grooming the lawn and was a fortunate golfer in that he achieved hitting a hole-in-one. He enjoyed watching Andy Griffith reruns, John Wayne movies, World War II movies and documentaries, American Pickers and watching WWE wrestling with grandson, Sam.
Doug is survived by his wife, Bobette Schauer of Arlington; children, Linnea (Craig) Bullert of Arlington, Matthew (Laura) Schauer of Janesville, and Anne (Lee) Rood of Rush City; grandchildren, Michael Bullert (fiancé Megan Kauffmann), Samuel Bullert, Lukas Bullert (fiancé Megan Eckberg), Ashtyn Bullert, Jaynie (Nick) Lloyd, Erik Schauer, Emily Borneke, Erin Borneke, Allyson, Braeden and Natalie Rood; uncle, Glenn Schauer of Arlington; sister-in-law, Lois Schauer of Savage; Bobette’s siblings, Anita Woehler of Falls Church, Va., Leanna (John) Fluegge of New Ulm, Andrea (Todd) Brinkman of Lafayette and John (Lana) Woehler of Arlington; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Marie, two step-mothers, Cora and Elsie; his brother, Dennis Schauer; and his parents-in-law, Robert and Marion Woehler.
Kolden Funeral Home of Arlington is assisting the family with arrangements.
