Marie Alma Voight, a lifetime resident of Arlington, passed away peacefully at the age of 101 at the New Prospective of Waconia on Saturday, Jan. 27.
Services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 101 West Chandler Street, Arlington, on Saturday, Feb. 10.
Family will greet friends starting at 10:30 a.m. with a service at noon followed by a Celebration of Life after the service.
Marie was born to Augusta and Fred Voight in Sibley County on Sept. 22, 1916. She was the youngest of five children. After attending school her various jobs included cleaning homes, candling eggs at Noack’s, seasonal work at the Arlington Canning Factory, Tonka Toys, and 25 years at the Arlington Municipal Liquor Store before retiring. She kept herself busy making quilts, embroidered numerous dish towels, and crocheted afghans for her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and St. Paul’s Ladies Aid.
In 1934 she was united in marriage to Henry Voight at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by Rev. R. Heidmann. They were blessed with five children: Jerry, Janice, Marlene, Larry and Dennis.
Marie was a strong, loving person who went out of her way to help so many people who were involved in her life.   She made everyone welcome in her home. She was passionate about many things but particularly in her faith, family, friends, and her needle work.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, and preparing holiday celebrations with family and went all out in decorating for the holidays. Whenever a special occasion occurred that brought family together, she always made her famous home made bean soup!  She was an avid Arlington baseball fan and never missed a Minnesota Twins game on TV.
Mom was very determined throughout her life and at the age of 100 she felt she was still able to drive to visit friends and shop!
She will be truly missed by her family and friends whom she valued very much.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry (Monica) Voight, Glencoe, and Dennis (Bev) Voight, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; daughter, Marlene Scott, Tempe Arizona, daughter-in-law, Ruth Voight, Arlington; and son-in-law, Charley Johnson,  Annandale. She was blessed with 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, in 1994; son, Larry, in 1983; daughter, Janice, 2004; and son-in-law, Bruce Scott, 1990.
Memorial donations may be sent to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 101 W. Chandler Street, Arlington, MN, 55307.
