Marjorie “Margie” Eckberg, age 79, wife of Garfield Eckberg, of Nicollet, passed away at Ecumen Prairie Hill in St. Peter on Tuesday, May 29.
Funeral services were held at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church in rural St. Peter, Lake Prairie Township, at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1. Pastor Shelly Olson officiated.
The pianist was Melody Schott.
Congregational hymns were “When Peace Like A River,” “Beautiful Savior” and  “Day By Day.”
Casket bearers were Rick Linde, Joel Eckberg, Maxwell Eckberg, Samuel Eckberg, Casey Eckberg, Zach Lyon, Paul Scheurer and Albert Reyes.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Marjorie Ann (Briest) Eckberg was born in Gaylord on Aug. 6, 1938. She was the daughter of Donald and Leorna (Bierstedt) Briest. Marjorie was baptized as an infant in 1938 and was later confirmed in her faith in May of 1952, both at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sibley Township. She received her education at District #9 country school for seven years and was a graduate and the Salutatorian of the Gaylord High School Class of 1956. Marjorie furthered her education for LPN training at Union Hospital in New Ulm. From 1957-1959, she worked at the Arlington Clinic.
On June 19, 1959, Marjorie was united in marriage to Garfield Eckberg at Trinity Lutheran Church. After their marriage, the couple farmed in New Sweden Township in Nicollet County. She was a loving wife, homemaker and mother. Marjorie and Garfield were blessed with five children, Thomas, Paul, James, Peter and Ann Marie. They shared 58 years of marriage.
Marjorie was a member of Scandian Grove Lutheran Church in Norseland Township.  She was active with the Ladies Aid; was a Sunday school teacher and had served on the Church Council. She was also a 4-H leader, and served for many years on the Farm Bureau Women’s Council both at the county and state levels. Marjorie also did community baking for many years, and collected clothing in the community for a family in Appalachia at Christmas time for many years. She also worked in the food service at Oak Terrace and Sibley East School in Gaylord.
Marjorie was an accomplished seamstress, an avid reader and she also enjoyed gardening.
Marjorie is survived by her husband, Garfield Eckberg of Nicollet; children, Thomas (Ann) Eckberg of Gaylord, Paul (Connie) Eckberg of Gaylord, Peter (Tami) Eckberg of Maple Grove, and Ann Marie (Mark) Strange of Bloomington; daughter-in-law, Pam Eckberg; 15 grandchildren, Jessica (Rick) Linde, Joel (Katie) Eckberg, Maxwell (Ashley) Eckberg, Megan (fiancé Lukas) Eckberg, Samuel (Allison) Eckberg, Casey Eckberg, Mackenzie (Zach) Lyon, Marissa (fiancé Wesley) Eckberg, Sarah (Albert) Reyes, Heidi (Paul) Scheurer, Emily Eckberg, Mary Eckberg, Rebecca Eckberg, Julia Strange and Charolette Strange; 10 great-grandchildren, Aiden Eckberg, Talin Eckberg, Avery Eckberg, Braxton Kurth, Aubrey Scheurer, Mason Linde, Brooklynn Linde, Ava Eckberg, Basil Eckberg and Leorna Lyon; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives; and friends.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Leorna Briest; and son, James Eckberg.
