Sibley East softball team returns 7 letterwinners

With snow still on the ground outside, the Sibley East varsity girls softball team held its first practice indoors at the Gaylord school site on Monday afternoon, March 14.
The Lady Wolverines return seven letterwinners for the upcoming season. The returning letterwinners include seniors Katie Glisczinski, Tara Quast, Amanda Reinert, Kelsey Sunvold and Paige Swenson; junior Milan Jordan; and sophomore Jordan Thomes.
Head coach Rod Tollefson hopes that experience will help Sibley East improve upon last year’s finish of 1-13 in the Minnesota River Conference and 2-19 overall.
The remaining seniors consist of Aimee Bruss, Caroline Henry and Sam Munoz.
The rest of the juniors include Emily Bullert, Melissa Frey, Nicole Jacomassi, Brook Koecheler-Sain, Hannah Larson, Whitney LeGare, Breanna Rau, Alyssa Swanson, Sarah Tessmer and Abby Tourtellott.
“I am really looking forward to the upcoming season because we have the majority of our starters back,” said Tollefson. “I know it’s still early, but the girls really have a positive attitude.”
Tollefson continued, “One nice aspect is that we have our starting pitcher, Kelsey Sunvold, back for the fourth consecutive year.”
The Lady Wolverines have improved upon their fielding during the past couple of seasons and Tollefson hopes “that trend continues this year.”
Sibley East, meanwhile, will have to improve on its hitting. The squad batted at a .211 clip last season.
“Our biggest weakness has been our hitting,” said Tollefson. “We have to get our bats going this year.”
Although Holy Family Catholic will be tough, Tollefson predicts at least five teams will contend for the title.
“I don’t see anyone running away with it,” said Tollefson.
The Lady Wolverines, pending weather conditions, will open their season at Norwood Young America in MRC play at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 7.
The sophomores include Sara Borchert, Shian Kavene, Molly Kjellsveg, Briana Reierson and Kayle Seeman.
The freshmen consist of Libby Densmore, Kaylee Garman, C.J. Hanson, Victoria Henry, Frances Klopfleisch, Kim Kurtzweg, Nicole Lieske, Madi Mahon, Britany Reierson, Bailee Uecker, Ashley Weber and Anna Woehler.
