The old Sibley East auditorium/gym in Arlington, which is currently under renovation for a new auditorium, was 60 years old.
The auditorium/gym was part of a big construction project planned for Arlington and Green Isle in 1954.

The construction project at the Arlington school, minus the swimming pool and fine arts addition, included the entire north part of the current building. The construction project also included the addition of three classrooms to the Green Isle school building.

The bond referendum was necessary after 11 school districts, including Green Isle and many rural school districts, joined the Arlington School District in 1954.
