The Sibley County Board, during a regular meeting last week, approved the purchase of a 2015 Ford Explorer for the sheriff’s department at a cost of $29,162 from Wolf Motors in LeSueur.
Sibley County Sheriff Bruce Ponath told the board that he had sought two bids, one from Nelson Auto Center in Fergus Falls who holds the state contract and the other from Wolf Motors.
Wolf Motors had the lowest bid by a couple hundred dollars.
Ponath said that the new vehicle will be used as an unmarked squad car.
The Explorer is an All Wheel Drive and the sheriff’s department will probably stick with this type of vehicle because of the extra room compared to the sedans.
The Explorer will replace an older Chevrolet Malibu that will be used as a county fleet car.
