A group of Sibley County farmers have sued the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for allegedly draining a 500-plus acre lake, according to a report on Channel 5 Eyewitness News.
The group of farmers claim the DNR placed a flood control culvert in 1975 to keep the water in Curran Lake and off neighboring farms.
According to the report, the group of farmers warned the DNR in 2011 that the culvert was deteriorating and needed to be fixed or repaired.
In a lawsuit filed last week, the group of farmers claim the DNR ignored those warnings, according to the report. They also claim the flood control culvert broke apart last June and sent the waters of Curran Lake over 200 acres of prime farm land.
